Beehive Project
In our attempt to ensure self-sufficiency for the safe house, we have started a bee-keeping project. Our goal is to make self-sustainability much easier by building a simple apiary that can hold up to 100 hives. While the project may take some time to properly develop, we are hopeful that it will eventually enable the safe house to support itself through income generated from selling honey. We hope to sustain the beehive project by planting sunflowers adjacent to the apiary. The girls will also take part in a training program on bee-keeping this April to help them learn how to properly harvest, and process honey.
Recently, we received a generous donation from the Mountain View United Methodist church of Denver Colorado that helped us buy 20 hives. We are still looking for more funds to reach our target of 100 hives.Similarly, we have received direct assistance in building an apiary for the bees from the Mission Direct group, since the beginning of April this year.
We are also sincerely grateful to the individual parties that have helped initiate and sustain the project through generous donations, and words of encouragement.
