RECONCILIATION
A major goal of our program is to reconcile our girls with their families. In 2013, we reconciled six girls, our highest number for a given year to date. To accomplish the reconciliation, we work with the local town administration and village elders to negotiate an agreement with the parents. Once this agreement is signed with MWV and the Kenya Children’s Department, the girl returns home to live with her family while she attends school. MWV provides school fees and the Children’s Department ensures that the agreement is upheld. During school vacation, MWV visits the girl and her family to maintain a bond with the child and to encourage the family to comply with their agreement to not pursue early marriage or FGM.
